Lindsay Lohan, who has seen her promising film career plummet recently, escaped felony charges when prosecutors filed seven misdemeanor counts against her stemming from two drunken-driving arrests. The district attorney charged Lohan with two counts each of driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08 percent and being under the influence of cocaine and one count of reckless driving. Police found cocaine on Lohan during the arrests on May 26 in Beverly Hills and July 24 in Santa Monica. In each incident, the amounts tested were below the .05 grams required for felony charges, according to the district attorney’s office. Sources say there were also problems proving Lohan was in possession of the drug. Each of Lohan’s arrests were followed by trips to rehab. Lohan crashed her Mercedes Benz into a tree on Sunset Boulevard in May and fled the scene to seek medical treatment. Police tests revealed that a white powder in Lohan’s purse was .04 grams of cocaine. Lohan checked into the exclusive Promises rehabilitation facility after the incident. She left the facility July 13 after six weeks of treatment. She was photographed wearing an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet after her release. Within days, she was involved in yet another bizzarre alcohol and drug related incident. In the second case, a law enforcement source says the manner in which the cocaine was seized was questionable. In addition, the source says the amount of cocaine “didn’t meet the threshold for filing.” “The D.A. always looks at the person and the circumstances and in Lohan’s case, the fact that she was arrested twice in a short period of time actually helped her. It shows someone is struggling with an addiction problem.” “The fact that each time she was arrested, she immediately checked into a rehab facility also helped her case. Also, her age and the fact that her upbringing was extremely unstable, also worked in her favor.”

Paris Hilton has reached a settlement in a $10 million defamation lawsuit between her and diamond heiress-actress Zeta Graff. In the suit, Graff claimed that Hilton spread “vicious lies” about her to the media in 2005. Both sides reached an “amicable resolution,” but the details were kept confidential, according to a statement released by Graff’s attorney, Bruce Broillet.”Both parties are glad that the matter could be resolved without the time and expense of a trial,” Broillet said in the statement. In the suit, Graff claimed that Hilton spread the lies about her to the New York Post. The Post reported that Graff, who once dated Hilton’s then-fiancee, Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis, went “berserk” at a nightclub, tried to strangle Hilton and attempted to steal her diamond necklace. Hilton denied that she was behind the report.Hilton’s former publicist, Rob Shuter, said in a deposition that Hilton asked him to help plant the story and that he gave the paper comments, dictated by Hilton, that he attributed to himself, Hilton and anonymous sources.

Richie checked herself into Lynwood jail, where Paris did her time, and she left a free woman after 82 minutes. According to the official website of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept., Richie checked in at 3:15 PM and was released at 4:37 PM. She was assigned to a cell for only 35 minutes. Richie was sentenced to four days in jail for driving the wrong way on a Los Angeles freeway while under the influence. She was given credit for 1 day because she was in jail for 6 hours after her arrest. A Sheriff’s source says Richie was routinely processed and released according to normal operating rules. Overcrowding was a major factor in her early release.The Sheriff’s Department released a statement regarding the 82-minute incarceration of Nicole Richie:”On August 23 2007, at 3:15 PM Miss Nicole Camille Richie reported to CRDF and surrendered herself following a July 27 arrest, she was sentenced to serve 96 hours in County Jail. Miss Richie was accompanied by her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley and her boyfriend Joel Madden. Miss Richie was booked and processed into the jail system. Miss Richie was cooperative during the process. Based on her sentence and federal court guidelines, Miss Richie was released at 4:37 PM.”

She was also placed on 36 months probation, is required to complete an 18-month alcohol education program, pay hundreds of dollars in fines and must complete a three-day county coroner program in which she’ll visit a morgue and talk to victims of drunken drivers.”It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs,” Lohan said in a statement released by her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik. She said she did things she was ashamed of. “I broke the law and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case.”"Shes getting what everyone else would get,” Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers said after an hourlong hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge H. Chester Horn Jr.’s courtroom. “If Lohan were to be convicted of another DUI, she would receive a mandatory 120-day jail sentence,” Meyers said. “If she violates her probation in any way,” Meyers added, “she could face even more time behind bars: up to a year on each of the drunk-driving and cocaine charges and 90 days on the reckless-driving charge.”"If she violates, it really is up to the judge to determine the specific sentence,” Meyers said. Lohan has until Jan. 18, 2008, to complete her jail time, community service and residential drug-rehabilitation program. She must also show proof of enrollment in the 18-month alcohol-education program required of all second-time drunken-driving offenders by that January date.”No matter what I said when I was under the influence on the day I was arrested, I am not blaming anyone else for my conduct other than myself. I thank God I did not injure others. I easily could have,” Lohan’s statement went on. Lohan was charged with seven misdemeanors stemming from two drunken-driving arrests in the last four months. More serious felony drug charges were not filed, prosecutors said, because tests showed there wasn’t enough cocaine on her to warrant them. Attorney Blair Berk entered pleas on Lohan’s behalf: she pleaded guilty to two counts of being under the influence of cocaine; no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08 percent and one count of reckless driving. Two counts of driving under the influence were dropped. The judge sentenced Lohan to 96 hours in jail, the mandatory minimum for a second drunken-driving offense. Lohan was given credit for 24 hours already served, and she elected to complete 10 days of community service instead of 48 hours behind bars, an option available to all two-time DUI offenders. “She still must serve the balance of her sentence, 24 hours, in city or county jail,” Meyers said.

Lindsay Lohan has reportedly been caught taking drugs in rehab. She was allegedly forced to undergo a drug test by the staff at Utah’s Cirque Lodge facility, and the results came back positive.Lohan has now been warned if she does not stay clean she will be thrown out of the center. A source claims, “Lindsay got called into the director’s office and was questioned about drugs. When ordered to take a drug test, she reluctantly complied but screamed and cursed at the medical director before storming out the room. She was told that if she couldn’t conform to the program she’d have to leave.” According to reports, this is not Lohan’s first indiscretion since entering Cirque Lodge earlier this month. She was reportedly caught having sex in a toilet stall with a male patient, who is also at Cirque for drug rehab. She is reportedly frequently late to meetings and refuses to do any chores or menial tasks such as toilet cleaning duties.Lohan entered the rehab center following her arrest after a high-speed car chase in Santa Monica. She was in possession of cocaine when she was taken into custody. Last week, Lindsay pleaded guilty to two charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance (cocaine) and pleaded no contest to two charges of DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol). She also pleaded no contest to one charge of reckless driving. After entering her plea bargain, she was sentenced to one day in jail and 36 months probation for her offences and ordered to undergo an 18-month alcohol rehabilitation program. This is Lohan’s third stint in rehab. She previously stayed at the Wonderland and Promises facilities in Los Angeles.

Jennifer Lopez has been awarded nearly $545,000 in a lawsuit against her first husband, Ojani Noa, over his plans to publish a tell-all book claiming she had several affairs.A court-ordered arbitrator made the decision in Lopez’s breach-of-contract lawsuit against Noa, court papers indicated. The award includes $200,000 in damages, with the rest going for arbitration costs and attorneys’ fees.Lopez’s lawsuit claimed that Noa had violated a previous lawsuit settlement preventing him from revealing private information about their relationship.The arbitrator also decided that a permanent injunction should be awarded against Noa that would bar him from “criticizing, denigrating, casting in a negative light or otherwise disparaging or causing disparagement” to Lopez.Noa will be be directed to give Lopez or her attorney all copies of materials related to the book.The arbitration decision was disclosed when Lopez’s attorney filed papers asking a Superior Court judge to confirm the award. A hearing in the case was scheduled for Sept. 5.Noa and Lopez, married in February 1997 and were divorced 11 months later. His unpublished, ghostwritten book alleges that during that time Lopez had multiple affairs, including one with her third and current husband, Marc Anthony, court documents indicated. Her lawsuit claimed Noa offered not to publish the book in return for $5 million. In 2004, Noa sued Lopez for breach of contract, claiming she lured him into taking a $1,000-a-week managerial job at her Pasadena restaurant and then fired him five months later. Noa settled the case for $125,000 and agreed not to disclose private information about their relationship or to disparage Lopez, according to court papers. Lopez’s lawsuit claimed Noa’s book plans breached that agreement.

The widower of the woman who died in a car accident involving R&B singer Brandy Norwood is furious that Brandy is out partying it up while he’s still mourning his wife’s death. The attorney for accident victim Awatef Aboudihaj’s husband, Marquane Hdidou, said his client is extremely angry that he sees pictures of Brandy out clubbing so soon after the crash, which took place last December. In the upcoming court case, the judge allowed the four parties suing Brandy in civil court to combine their cases: Hdidou, his wife’s two children from a previous marriage, her parents, and Mallory Ham, the man who survived the accident. A trial date has been set for January 28 in the civil case. As for the criminal case, the investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed.

Bridget Moynahan and ex-boyfriend, New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady are new parents. Moynahan and Brady split up late last year after a three-year relationship. Moynahan gave birth to the baby in Los Angeles, Moynahan’s publicist Christina Papadapoulos said in a statement. “Both mother and baby are doing well,” she said. Brady’s whereabouts weren’t known. He wasn’t on the field or sidelines for the first 15 minutes of practice and Patriots spokesman Stacey James said he didn’t know when Brady would rejoin the team. Brady had said earlier this week that he would like a few days off for the birth of his first child, calling the event “a very joyous, happy situation.” It was unknown if he arrived before the baby was born.

Paris Hilton has reached a settlement in a $10 million defamation lawsuit between her and diamond heiress-actress Zeta Graff. In the suit, Graff claimed that Hilton spread “vicious lies” about her to the media in 2005. Both sides reached an “amicable resolution,” but the details were kept confidential, according to a statement released by Graff’s attorney, Bruce Broillet.”Both parties are glad that the matter could be resolved without the time and expense of a trial,” Broillet said in the statement. In the suit, Graff claimed that Hilton spread the lies about her to the New York Post. The Post reported that Graff, who once dated Hilton’s then-fiancee, Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis, went “berserk” at a nightclub, tried to strangle Hilton and attempted to steal her diamond necklace. Graff denied the report and claimed that Hilton said, “I’m going to destroy you” after trying to oust her from the club, according to the suit. Hilton denied that she was behind the report.Hilton’s former publicist, Rob Shuter, said in a deposition that Hilton asked him to help plant the story and that he gave the paper comments, dictated by Hilton, that he attributed to himself, Hilton and anonymous sources.

Lindsay Lohan, who has seen her promising film career plummet recently, escaped felony charges when prosecutors filed seven misdemeanor counts against her stemming from two drunken-driving arrests. The district attorney charged Lohan with two counts each of driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08 percent and being under the influence of cocaine and one count of reckless driving. Police found cocaine on Lohan during the arrests on May 26 in Beverly Hills and July 24 in Santa Monica. In each incident, the amounts tested were below the .05 grams required for felony charges, according to the district attorney’s office. Sources say there were also problems proving Lohan was in possession of the drug. Each of Lohan’s arrests were followed by trips to rehab. Lohan crashed her Mercedes Benz into a tree on Sunset Boulevard in May and fled the scene to seek medical treatment. Police tests revealed that a white powder in Lohan’s purse was .04 grams of cocaine. Lohan checked into the exclusive Promises rehabilitation facility after the incident. She left the facility July 13 after six weeks of treatment. She was photographed wearing an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet after her release. Within days, she was involved in yet another bizzarre alcohol and drug related incident. In the second case, a law enforcement source says the manner in which the cocaine was seized was questionable. In addition, the source says the amount of cocaine “didn’t meet the threshold for filing.” “The D.A. always looks at the person and the circumstances and in Lohan’s case, the fact that she was arrested twice in a short period of time actually helped her. It shows someone is struggling with an addiction problem.” “The fact that each time she was arrested, she immediately checked into a rehab facility also helped her case. Also, her age and the fact that her upbringing was extremely unstable, also worked in her favor.”

Britney Spears is in more trouble after crashing her car in a Los Angeles parking lot. Paparazzi video cameras caught the incident, which took place outside a health food store as Spears tried to park her Mercedes Benz. With her new pet dog London sitting on her lap and without her seatbelt fastened, a smiling Spears offered, “I’m a braniac”, after grazing a parked station wagon.Spears was then caught hitting the same vehicle again as she swung her driver’s door open to get out. Checking the damage to her car,a pouting Spears told the video cameramen, “It’s not that bad.” There was no word as to whether the owner of the vehicle she scratched planned to seek compensation from her.

A Los Angeles judge has issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the release of a 1994 videotape documenting a breast augmentation surgery for Anna Nicole Smith. Superior Court Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff granted the order at the request of Smith’s former attorney and executor of her will, Howard K. Stern. The injunction prevents the sale, distribution or dissemination of the videotape. In court documents, Stern accused Gerald Wayne Johnson, the Texas doctor who performed the surgery, of sending a tape showing the procedure to Thomas Riccio, a Los Angeles-based memorabilia dealer. Stern claims the surgery was taped without Smith’s consent. Smith died in Florida in February at the age of 39. Johnson claims he routinely records surgeries with the patient’s permission and promises to keep the video confidential “during the patient’s lifetime.” Johnson said he gave Riccio permission to use the video after Smith died. Stern claims Johnson’s wife and Riccio would share in any proceeds from the sale of the videotape to various media outlets.

Denise Richards has denied claims made by her ex-husband Charlie Sheen that she wants him to provide a sperm donation so she can have another child. The couple, who have two daughters, finalized their divorce last November, although Sheen is heading back to court to try and prevent Richards from phoning him whenever she likes, and to revisit custody terms. Sheen now alleges Richards asked for a sperm donation. He says, “There was a request for a donation. Without getting into it more, there is a specific document relating to this that I am going to reserve for a court.” Sheen, who is currently engaged to Brooke Mueller, has no intention of providing a donation: “I would sooner, in actually what I’m wearing, walk on the surface of the moon.” Richards has denied Sheen’s claims. She says, “I don’t want another child right now. I have my hands full.” Sheen counters her denial, “She can make every claim in the world. But what she stated in something she wrote would completely and totally defy that.”

Spice Girl Melanie ‘Mel B’ Brown was secretly married to boyfriend Stephen Belafonte in June. Mel B and Belafonte and were married in a Las Vegas ceremony on June 6. A clerk at the Clark County Marriage Bureau confirms there is a marriage certificate. Mel B’s representative says, “the couple are ‘very happy’ and ‘very much in love.’ They have had a deep friendship for a number of years,” adding, “that has developed into a loving relationship.” As to the reason for secrecy, Mel’s rep says there was none. “They just value their privacy.” It is the bride’s second marriage. Brown previously was married to Jimmy Gulzar, a former backup dancer for the Spice Girls. Gulzar is the father of Brown’s oldest daughter. Last week, a representative for Eddie Murphy said he had previously admitted to being the father of Brown’s infant daughter, following the news that Brown had filed a Superior Court petition to legally establish him as the child’s father.

Vivica A. Fox has been barred from drinking alcohol, just one sip could bring her back in front of the judge.In Los Angeles County Superior Court, a judge ordered Fox to stay sober until her September arraignment, but didn’t bar her from associating with those who are drinking. “She can be around alcohol because of the nature of her work” the judge said, adding “but she cannot consume or possess it. I am not permitting her to consume alcohol.” If Fox does drink, she could be forced to hand over thousands in bail money, due to the fact that she was originally released on her own recognizance. Fox was arrestedfor DUI in March, after she raced past the police at a high rate of speed on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles. She reportedly registered .09 on a Breathalyzer test, just over the .08 legal limit. If convicted, Fox faces a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Ronnie Blake, the man whose foot Lindsay Lohan drove over as she left a party in pursuit of a former assistant is threatening to sue her. Blake was one of three partygoers who was inside an SUV when the intoxicated Lohan allegedly commandeered the vehicle to chase her former assistant, Tarin Grahame through the streets of Malibu, California.Blake managed to get out of the vehicle just before Lohan sped off, with his two pals, Dante Nigro and Jakon Sutter fearing for their lives inside. Blake’s foot was run over in his attempt to flee the vehicle. The three men have hired attorney Randall Billington to represent them as they consider legal action against Lohan. If the suit goes ahead, Blake will be seeking damages for his injuries, while Nigro and Sutter are considering pressing false imprisonment and stolen vehicle charges. Billington insists the trio should not be seen as opportunists looking to get rich quick from a celebrity. He says, “It was a surprise to them that the vehicle was taken without their permission. They were unable to remove themselves from the vehicle while it was traveling. They never expected to be in a car with Lohan.” After speeding the SUV through the streets of Malibu at a high rate of speed, Lohan allegedly went to Grahame’s home in Santa Monica, where she began a second chase with her former assistant’s mother, Michelle Peck. Peck called police to report that she was being chased and the authorities arrested Lohan in a parking lot a block away from a police station in Santa Monica.

To the delight of neighbors, Paris Hilton has put her 1926 Spanish-style Hollywood Hills home on the market for $4.25 million. Hilton wants to buy a larger home in a gated community or, one with a long gated driveway, according to her aunt and informal spokeswoman, Kyle Richards. Hilton bought the four-bedroom residence in 2004 for about $2.9 million, during the second season of her reality show, ‘The Simple Life.’ She redecorated the interior in black and white and transformed one bedroom into a walk-in closet and another into a security control room. During Hiltons recent legal woes, her home was the center of a media invasion that was upsetting her neighbors. The throng of reporters and paparazzi staked out the home above Sunset Boulevard, capturing her move from jail to home and back again. The onslaught caused some residents to circulate a letter advising neighbors to call police about the noise and traffic. Richards, says their discomfort was not a factor in Paris’ decision to sell. “I’m sure they’ll be happy to see the paparazzi go, but that had nothing to do with it,” Richards says. “She can’t control the people who are outside.” Hilton is currently staying in a rented home in Malibu.
