A buyer for a Chinese art collector bought the black-and-white image, taken by photographer Michel Comte in 1993 during Bruni-Sarkozy’s modeling days, Christie’s auction house said. The sale of the photo has attracted attention since Bruni married French President Nicolas Sarkozy in February. The photo had been expected to bring between $3,000 and $4,000. It was auctioned as part of a sale of 140 photos from German collector Gert Elfering.

Sandra Bullock and her husband Jesse James were involved in a car crash on after their vehicle was hit by a drunk driver. The couple was being driven home in a private car in Gloucester, Massachusetts, at around 9.50pm when they were struck by a grey Subaru station wagon. Amy Winehouse was arrested on suspicion of assault following reports that she scuffled with two men during a wild night out. A video of her allegedly smoking crack hit the Internet shortly before she won five Grammys this year for her critically acclaimed album “Back to Black.” She was arrested in London in December on suspicion of attempting to interfere with a court case involving Fielder-Civil, but earlier this year police said prosecutors were no longer pursuing the affair. Fielder-Civil faces charges of perverting the course of justice stemming from a case in which he is accused of assaulting a barman.

Heath Ledger’s family evaded scores of photographers as they returned to Perth with his body following his death in a Manhattan apartment last month. Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medication and other prescription drugs, the New York City medical examiner said. “The cause of death was acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine,” spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said in a statement.
