Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, who released Paris Hilton from jail early, insists he saved her life.The Sheriff appeared before the County Board of Supervisors after Hilton’s release to justify why he had initially transferred her to home confinement on June 8. He told the Board, which oversees sheriff’s funding, he authorized the release because Hilton was suffering from an undisclosed medical condition and he wanted to save her life. He says, “Our doctors said we had no solution to Hilton’s medical problems. None. As a sheriff in this county, I’m not going to let any inmate die in this jail.”"What’s worth more? A person spending time in a county jail for driving on a suspended license or a person losing her life?”"She was at a place where we couldn’t fix whatever that medical problem was with the resources we have. We knew this problem was not going to get better. We were placed in a very unusual and awkward position with Ms. Hilton.” Baca insists his decision to place Hilton in home-confinement was also motivated by a federal mandate to relieve jail overcrowding that results in early release of minor offenders.

Lindsay Lohan was allegedly drunk and had cocaine in her system during an early morning accident in Beverly Hills on Memorial Day weekend. According to multiple law enforcement sources, toxicology reports conclude that Lohan had “nearly twice the legal limit” of alcohol and traces of cocaine in her bloodstream when she crashed her 2005 Mercedes convertible into a curb on Sunset Blvd. around 5:30 AM on May 26. In California, drivers with a .08 or higher are legally drunk. Police say Lohan and two other adults were in the car at the time of the accident. After the crash, she was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries, then placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI. Police later said they found a “usable amount” of cocaine in the car. The Beverly Hills Police Dept. could present the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney in the next few days.

The recently released arrest report written after the California Highway Patrol arrested Vivica A. Fox for DUI in March revealed she called the arresting officer a racist and asked his partner for help. The officer says in the report, after she was stopped, “Fox began to walk away, yelling at my partner, ‘Brother help a sister. Are you going to let this racist white cop do this, well are you?’” In the section of the report in which the officers are asked to describe the demeanor of the person they’re arresting, the officer wrote “demeaning.” Things got volatile enough that a patrol sergeant was called to the scene. Daniel Laubscher, the officer who wrote the report, and who Fox called “racist,” is white. The other officer, called “brother” by Fox, is Sam Dealba, and he’s Hispanic. Fox was taken to the station where a breath test was administered. The report reads, “Fox then burped quite loudly and I then aborted the test.” She was also advised she could take off her 3-4 inch high heeled spiked boots, but “she told me she was a dancer and felt more comfortable wearing them.” Fox has been charged with one count of DUI and one count of driving while impaired. She registered a .09, just over the .08 legal limit. If convicted, Fox faces a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Prosecutors withdrew charges against a celebrity photographer accused of planting a listening device outside Nicole Kidman’s home. Jamie Fawcett was charged in January 2005 with possessing and using a listening device after he allegedly was spotted planting the bug near a sidewalk outside Kidman’s Sydney home. The New South Wales state Department of Public Prosecutions withdrew all charges against Fawcett in Sydney’s Local Court. The reasons for the decision were not immediately clear.”I’m naturally happy,” Fawcett said outside the court. “I didn’t think that there was any reason to bring the charges in the first place.” After he was charged, a Sydney court ordered Fawcett to provide a DNA sample to compare with samples allegedly found on the listening device.Fawcett appealed and the court ruled that he could not be forced to provide police with a DNA sample since there was no evidence he had violated any law. In 2005, Kidman reached an out-of-court settlement with Fawcett and fellow Sydney-based photographer Ben McDonald after she was granted a temporary restraining order against the pair.

After months of speculation, The Spice Girls, Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham, Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell, Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm, Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton and Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown announced they were reuniting, six years after they split.The world tour will take place in December and January. They are also releasing a greatest hits album and planning to re-release their movie ‘Spice World’ to coincide with their reunion. Larry Birkhead and Howard K. Stern sat side-by-side in a courtroom as a commissioner admitted Anna Nicole Smith’s will to probate and ordered that Birkhead would be guardian of the estate while Stern serves as executor of her will.”The will dated July 30th, 2001, is admitted to probate,” said Superior Court Commissioner Mitchell L. Beckloff. This begins the process in which Smith’s assets will be identified and the court will determine how they should be distributed. The will left the entirety of her estimated $710,000 in assets to her now-deceased son. The Los Angeles city prosecutor who condemned Paris Hilton’s early release from jail as celebrity favoritism is now under fire for special treatment given to his wife. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, had claimed special treatment for Hilton by Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca because of her early release from jail. Delgadillo had chided Baca for freeing Hilton early into house arrest for unspecified medical problems.”If law enforcement officials are to enjoy the respect of those we are charged with protecting, we cannot tolerate a two-tiered jail system where the rich and powerful receive special treatment,” he said at the time. His office insisted on a 45-day sentence, which lawyers said was more time than most serve for similar offences. Now Delgadillo has admitted special treatment for his wife after a story appeared in the Los Angeles Times that she was wanted for arrest for nine years. The Times reported a warrant for Michelle Delgadillo was issued by a judge in 1998 after she failed to appear in court on charges of driving without insurance on a suspended license in an unregistered car. Originally charged under her maiden name, Michelle Delgadillo, was never detained during the nine ensuing years, though the court order for her arrest remained valid. Hours after the Times story broke, she appeared in court to plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license, and the warrant was canceled.”She was sentenced to 12 months on probation and fined $431,” according to a spokesman for Delgadillo’s office. Delgadillo also admitted to reporters that his wife had been driving his city-owned vehicle on a suspended license when it was damaged in a 2004 accident and later repaired at taxpayer expense. He also acknowledged he drove for more than a year without automobile insurance required of all California drivers and that his wife was uninsured when she left the scene of another 2004 accident involving the couple’s personal car. At a City Hall news conference, Delgadillo called his own behavior a breach of “the public trust.” He and his wife issued statements saying they were “embarrassed” by the latest revelations, and Delgadillo said he had been unaware of his wife’s arrest warrant.

NBC News is denying reports that it has offered as much as $1 million for the first interview with Paris Hilton after her release from jail next week.”We don’t pay for interviews and we’ll never pay for interviews, and I have no interview to confirm,” NBC News spokeswoman Allison Gollust said. She did acknowledge the “common practice” of licensing pictures and video, but “Ive never seen a deal like that for this kind of money.” The accusation arose from a source at ABC News, as first reported by the New York Post. ABC had agreed to potentially pay up to $100,000 to the Hilton family for the interview as well as access to videos of Hilton and other material, according to an inside source. But ABC was outbid by an “astronomical” offer from NBC, the source said, citing information gained from the Hilton family. Hilton’s spokesman Elliot Mintz said, “I can’t comment because I really and truly don’t know.” The interview would apparently be for NBC News’ ‘TODAY’ show, which has a fierce rivalry for high-profile interviews with its ratings runner-up, ABC News’ ‘Good Morning America.’Network news divisions officially don’t pay for interviews, the ban can be sidestepped in various ways, including shifting the negotiations to a network’s entertainment division, which has no such restrictions.

Eddie Murphy has been confirmed as the father of his ex-girlfriend Melanie ‘Mel B’ Brown’s daughter, according to her spokeswoman. Brown received paternity test results which reveal Murphy is the father of baby Angel Iris, her representative said.”He’s the baby’s father, it’s official. The baby is undoubtedly, 110 percent his,” Brown’s representative said. Brown gave birth to Angel Iris Murphy Brown on April 3. On the birth certificate, Brown listed the child’s last name as Murphy. Murphy, who has continually denied the child is his, recently vowed to stand by Brown if a DNA test proved he was the dad. He had been ordered by a court to provide a DNA sample, which he did at a Beverly Hills, California clinic on June 11. Brown and her daughter went to the same clinic, where the child underwent a blood test. Brown was “devastated” when Murphy publicly ended their romance on a Dutch TV show last year, saying, “I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a test. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir.”
